The First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

    Summarizing the Four Main Points:
  1. Freedom of Speech
    (Congress shall make no laws that restrict the speech of the people or of the press.)
  2. Freedom of Religion
    (There is no one official American religion.)
  3. Right to Assemble
    (The freedom to gather in peaceful groups.)
  4. Right to Protest
    (The right to disagree with the government, and peacefully express that dissent.)
